Michael Chernawsky, CPA, CA, is a passionate and entrepreneurial accountant with a broad range of expertise across numerous industries. Michael regularly acts as a contract CFO and has managed and overseen all financial aspects of a company, including financial reporting, Canadian and U.S. corporate tax, treasury, budgeting, payroll, staff management and the many other financial responsibilities necessary in operating a business. He has worked as the Chief Financial Officer of a leading heavy machinery remanufacturer and regularly provides contract CFO services to a variety of clients. Michael has also provided complex business advice regarding financings, tax structuring, sales strategies, company-wide cost reduction analysis and recommendations, as well as the development and review of international business expansion opportunities.

Prior to founding CHY in 2016, Michael was a Controller and Manager of Financial Reporting at a publicly-traded company. Prior to that, Michael worked for 5 years at Ernst & Young in their Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver offices. During his time with EY, Michael worked in the assurance (i.e. audit), Canadian corporate tax and U.S. corporate tax service lines.

Michael is a Chartered Professional Accountant in British Columbia and Ontario. He has completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Program and the CPA In-Depth Corporate Reorganizations Course certified by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. Michael earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in Accounting (high honors) from Carleton University. He is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the American Bar Association (Tax Section).
